* Private dimensions:
- Use when the dimension only relates to 1 fact table
- Can only be used in 1 cube
- Can simplify cube maintenance and minimize processing time
- Can’t be converted to being shared
* Shared dimensions:
- Ensure that dimensions mean the same thing in multiple cubes
- Make it possible to combine related cubes into a virtual cube
- Date and time dimensions would normally be shared
- Can save server memory; only loaded once
